Little Renovations

We’ve recently been suffering from a bit of post-holiday-clean-up-our-cluttered-lives fever around here.  We have this little room that we use as a music room/play room/mud room, and it’s usually a mess and very dark with only one window.  So we decided to lighten it up and clean it up.  We want to use it as a music room/lounge space, since J has his big computer in there and that’s how we watch movies, so we’re looking for a little love seat.  We usually go the dust mite/get-it-off-the-side-of-the-road route, but since the boy’s allergy diagnosis, I’ve realized that just re-covering the old couch doesn’t get rid of the dust mite colonies.  They are still in there.  But to get something new is proving very difficult, since new stuff is always huge in scale, and expensive.  We may be laying on blankets for a while.  In the meantime, we painted the walls this pretty shade of blue, and it looks better already.

Oh yeah, while we're at it, J says, lets just strip this old door. The paint is flaking off anyways. This will most likely never get finished. Is this the Shabby Chic look?

We got these little Scandinavian kitchen chairs at an antique store this summer, and they are cute, but in terrible shape.  I finally decided they were too embarrassing, so while J was painting the room, I took the cushions off of them, and sanded and painted them a new glossy white.  Well, I’ve only actually done one chair so far, maybe the other 3 this weekend?

Mmmmm, who ever covered these last has GREAT taste in fabric.

Much better

Sweet little detail

I bought a couple of yards of Anna Maria Horner’s oil cloth to cover the seats with.  Hopefully it will arrive soon!  I wish I had one of those pneumatic staple guns.  How fun would that be! I’d be recovering things left and right.  Bang! bang!bang!  It’s been on my wish list ever since I did our couch years ago.  What a pain that was.

The swatch in front is the one I got. I can't wait to show you the finished project!

I’m keeping one eye out the window waiting for the mail truck….
