photobucket

Flickr, the place where I can share photos online, has been giving me fits.  I logged out yesterday after doing TONS of work on the site, and then it would not let me back in.  No matter what I do, it thinks I don’t exist and will not recognize me.  I was at my wits end last night about 11:30, so I put it away to try again in the morning when I wasn’t so worked up, but it still won’t work for me.  So, lets try a different photo sharing site.

I created a slide show/lookbook of my recent work on Photobucket, but I can’t figure out how to link it directly to this page (yet).  I’m so happy with how the clothes look, though, so if you will indulge me and follow this link, I will be so happy.

Here’s one dress to whet your appetite:

a new puppy!?

Although we’ve been mulling over the idea of getting a dog for some time now, I’m not sure if I ever believed we would really go through with it.  Enter Petfinder.com.  A dog caught my eye Friday night, and by Saturday afternoon, we had adopted her!  I don’t know how to explain it, but it just felt right.  She just seemed like she belonged with us, and the great thing is that her brother was getting adopted the same day, so neither of them had a chance to get lonely.  Wanna see her?

She's a cute little mutt. They speculate a mix of Staffordshire Bull Terrier and Lab. She's 3 months old.

Did I mention her name is Gertrude? We’ve been calling her Gertie.  A few people have told us that is the name of Drew Barrymore’s character in ET – it’s been a while since I saw that flick.  Jeff named her with the kid’s help.  I had no say in the matter.  I spent a good hour filling out paper work at the shelter while they played and named her.  Hmmmm.

So, three cheers for TAAG, the animal rescue people who pulled her out of the high kill shelter and fostered her out so that we could find her.  They work so hard.

Wish us luck with our first puppy!! I’ll take any advice that any of you smart dog owners want to send me…..

italian sweets

dsc_00461Look at the colorful Kinder chocolate and Fruit.tella!  Our friend went to Italy and we took care of his dog (see the picture in the previous post!).  He came back this week and to sweeten our sadness at seeing the dog go, he brought us these yummy treats.  I thought I should take pictures of the boxes and bags they came in because otherwise I will want to save them and then the already bursting at the seams house will truly explode.

Look at the smiling clean cut kid selling chocolate!

sprucing up

Every year about this time we get the urge to spruce up the house.  To open the windows, shake the dust out, and freshen up our space.

The girls share a room and have desperately wanted to stake out a little space or nook of their own.  They had friday off from school (will there ever be a week when they go all 5 days?!) and so we set ourselves up with a little project.  The deal was that they could pick out wall paint if they cleaned the room first, and man, was it a pit!  This took all morning, and then finally, we went to the store, they picked out colors (one each) and we came home and painted.  Have a look!

Tangerine paint. I swear I smelled oranges when I opened the can.

Not bad for a days work, huh?! It’s amazing what a little color can do for one’s spirits.

And, here is my newest etsy purchase, also intended to liven up our plain jane hallway.

That yellowish color didn't translate well. It is really a bright white which contrasts nicely with the orange.

It came from a print shop in Portugal! It is, of course, a reproduction of the well known WWII poster.  It is just the message we all need to see as we descend our stairs each morning.  Maybe I should buy one of every color and post them everywhere!  Here is how to find it in all colors of the rainbow: PrintSpot.etsy.com

spring fever…

…don’t you have it? We had such a warm weekend it was impossible not to kick our shoes off and sunburn our noses.  Here’s a glimpse:

I know we’ll have some more cold days coming, it’s only March after all, but on this 75 degree weekend, I’ll soak up as much as I can!!

summer fabric

Oooohhhh! I can’t wait to show you the new fabric I just ordered!  Best case scenario, it’ll arrive sometime next week, and then I’ll take pictures.  It is so hard to make that final decision, but I know I picked some winners – lots and lots of colors to choose from –  some big prints, some small, all very, very lively.  You’re going to love ’em!!

cowboy boots, recycled

Don’t throw out those worn out cowboy/girl boots! I tried to do just that this weekend.  We’ve had these 2 pairs for at least 5 years, and all three kids have worn each of them at some point.  They were very much loved, but the time had come.  So I tossed them into the trash.  But I couldn’t stand the sight of them in there, so I pulled them right back out, and came up a project to give them another life.

Here is what we did on Sunday:

1. cut the tops off of your old cowboy boots.  You need very sharp scissors for this.  My sewing ones did just fine.

2. Sew the bottom opening closed.  My industrial machine does fine with leather, but if your machine won’t sew leather, then use an awl and punch holes every 1/2 inch, then use embroidery floss to do the blanket stitch and sew it up by hand.  At this point, I sewed on some cute trim that the kids picked out to cover up the bottom seam. Pick out some ribbon or leather string, and tie some handles onto the loops that you use to pull the boots on with.

3. Get out the glue gun! This was the most fun part.  The kids dug through my stash of buttons and beads, then glue gunned the afternoon away.  So fun.

Oh, did Declan love this part. He burned his thumb with the hot glue, but that didn't even slow him down.

4. Line them up and take a picture, then fill ’em up with your favorite stuff!

And at the end of the day, I was able to throw out the worn out heels without guilt or nostalgia…
